In the church today we hear that salvation is a free gift from God. This is true. It is free to receive this gift. But make no mistake it is not a free gift. First, it cost Jesus everything! Think about it for a moment.(Use your imagination) Jesus is the Son of God, sitting in heaven with the Father and the Father says, “Son, the day has come, time for you to go to the earth so we can redeem these humans. I love you and I love them. You are the answer to having them restored to us.”

Jesus gets excited, “Okay, Let’s do it!”

The Father says, “Hold on a minute Son. You need to understand what this is going to cost you. I am going to send you to the earth as a baby, helpless and needy. You will depend on a human to raise and teach you. On earth you will live without the power that you have here, like one of them. They are not going to like you from the start. Kings will want to kill you, people will mock you and reject you. Many will follow, but in the end only a few will remain.”

“In the end?” asked Jesus.

“Yes, Son, in the end they will kill you in a cruel way, on a cross. But it is here that the miracle happens and who you are is truly made known. Because when they kill you, you will defeat satan! It will look like they are winning for three days, and then you will be back and satan will have lost! But this battle will cost you everything you know.”

“So I do this and the people will be ours again?”

“It’s not that simple. They have free-will, we gave it to them. So some will choose to believe who you are and what you did and follow you. Some who follow you, will only follow to get what they can from you. They are not your real followers. They will claim to know you, but you really don’t know them. Other’s will take the time to count the cost and truly lay it all down to follow you. These are the ones that understand who you are, the price you paid and are willing to pay the high price for this free gift, of giving all they are to be all we made them to be. These are your followers”

“Remember Son, the way to heaven is a narrow road and only a few will truly walk that road, may will take the easy way and run down the wide road that is filled with all the things of the world that make them happy, not understanding they running straight for hell! You are their only way to make a change.”

And Jesus said, “Okay Father, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven! I will lay down my deity and become a servant to the ones we created so they can come back to us and be with us for eternity. I choose to die for them.”
