Do you remember when you were a kid, sitting out in the yard making mud pies.
You might add—dirt, water, maybe some gravel —but you didn’t have a real pie…you couldn’t eat this.
Then you would go in the house and mom is in the kitchen making a cake, she adds all the right ingredients –flour, sugar, eggs, oil, vanilla extract and begins to mix it together. When she is done she will bake it, you know the outcome..right.
In the church today, we are like that kid wanting revival, but throwing in all the wrong ingredients…we put in some good music, a new program, hire a new out reach minister..we try to mix it all up, but we get nothing good—it is not happening…why?
We are trying to do it our way, not God’s.
God gives us the recipe to move Him! It’s like a boxed cake. We just have to follow directions.
So what are those directions. What goes in and what doesn’t?
Let’s look at 2 Chronicles 7:14
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land
Who is God talking to here? The world? The people of the world? No! He is talking to the church, to His people, born again believers!
IF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME
We often here the nation has to turn back to God—NO HIS PEOPLE have to turn back to Him. He is calling us in this verse.
Now what do we, His people need to do?
- This gets hard
- Humble yourselves. – death to selfie here. This is about laying down that pride and admitting we need God to move and do something—not just in words but by truly surrendering to Him.
- Pray –Prayer isn’t just going God we want revival.
After Smith Wigglesworth died in 1947, doctors are said to have found that some of the bone on each of Wigglesworth’s knee caps was missing. Later, in his house, others found two indentations, about a foot apart, on the wooden floor of a corner room.
Wigglesworth, it was surmised, had spent a lot of time there knelt in prayer.
Do we pray like this or do we give God drive thru prayers and expect revival.
Seek my face – We seek his gifts. We want what he can give us, but so we seek Him. If all I ever did was come to you because I want something, how long would we be friends? God wants to know us and be known by us.
Turn from your wicked ways.
This is a complete about face—turn around and go the opposite direction. Stop what you are doing and change paths.
True repentance. A complete change of heart.
Then what happens
The final ingredient is added
God moves ..
He says He will hear from heaven
He will forgive our sins
He will heal our land.
We look at the world and blame then for our mud pie faith, but it is not their fault. They are not called to humble themselves and seek God we are. When we truly start repenting and seeking God, we will see the beauty of revival around us.
Letting God work in and through us is the missing ingredient to have the revival we long for.
Just like we couldn’t make a cake from mud, but out moms took all the right ingredients and made something beautiful…God wants to take us and change our world
Are we ready to step into the revival God is calling us too?
