Grace: More Than Forgiveness—A Call to Holiness

In a world full of uncertainties, one truth remains unwavering: God blesses us beyond what we can imagine. At the core of His blessings is the incredible gift of grace. As described in Ephesians 1:4-5, He chose us and predestined us to be adopted as His sons and daughters. This act of adoption reveals God’s profound love and unmerited favor toward us.

Recently, I reflected on the nature of God’s grace. It centers not on our efforts but on Him and the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Our role is simply to believe and receive this incredible gift. However, it’s essential to recognize that with this gift comes a responsibility.

Grace is not something we earn; it is a gift freely given. Yet, once we accept it, God expects us to steward it well. There are misconceptions that grace provides a free pass to live however we please. Some might justify their choices—whether it’s engaging in promiscuous relationships, excessive drinking, or living in sin—by claiming, “It’s okay; God has already forgiven me.” This is not a biblical perspective; it’s a false teaching.
Romans 6:1-2 clearly warns us against continuing in sin, suggesting that we should not take advantage of grace. Moreover, 1 Thessalonians 4:7 reminds us that God didn’t call us to a life of sin but of holiness. As Romans 6:5-6 illustrates, when we gave our lives to Jesus, we were crucified with Him—we died to our old selves, and the sinful flesh that craved wrongdoing has been destroyed. We now have been given new life; we are no longer slaves to sin. Remember, we CHOOSE to live in sin; we do not have to!

Having been set free from sin, we are expected to live like it. But there’s more to this extraordinary grace. We were blessed with grace lavishly and, in turn, are called to give it away freely and extravagantly. As grace carriers, we have the opportunity to extend grace to others when they stumble, hurt us, or when life doesn’t go as planned.
So today, let’s embrace our calling! Live out your gift of grace by walking in the holiness you are meant to embody. Remember to give that grace away generously. We are called not only to receive God’s unmerited favor but also to share it with others. Let your life be a testament to the extravagant grace that has transformed you!
