Embracing the Power of Meditation on God’s Word

_”Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”_ – Psalms 119:18

As we journey through life, the importance of understanding and internalizing God’s Word cannot be overemphasized. Reading the Bible is foundational, yet taking the next step into actual meditation—where we go deeper into the scriptures—transforms our relationship with God. The Greek word commonly translated as **meditate** means to consider, contemplate, reflect, think on, or even mull over. It encourages an in-depth engagement with scripture, not merely a fleeting glance that fails to leave a lasting impression.

‘Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.”- Psalms 119:34

When you engage in meditation over a specific verse or chapter, you are inviting the living Word of God to resonate within you. This goes beyond mere reading; it requires us to take these divine words into our hearts and minds, looking meticulously at how they apply to our lives, families, and the world around us. For instance, when I go for my runs, I often allow a verse to “marinate” in my spirit. As I move through the rhythm of my pace, I reflect on what God is particularly revealing to me through that scripture. This practice makes the Bible come alive, showcasing its role as God’s living Word, an active agent in our daily lives.

_”Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”_ – James 4:8

The act of meditation is not merely an intellectual exercise; it serves a spiritual purpose. Every time we delve deeply into His Word, we expose ourselves to the possibility of conviction. Through meditation, deceits and sins we may have hidden from ourselves come to light, prompting us to confess and repent. With Psalm 139:23–24 as encouragement, we are invited to pray boldly, asking God to search our hearts, revealing any hidden shortcomings.

_”This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.”_ – Joshua 1:8

Repentance is a crucial aspect of this journey. True repentance goes beyond saying “I’m sorry.” It requires a complete change of mind and direction—running towards the Father and not looking back. Keep time with God prioritizing daily review and confession. This practice helps maintain a pure heart in alignment with His Word and His plans for our lives, while also protecting us from the walls of separation that can lead to spiritual coldness.

In closing, the essence of meditation involves a commitment to deeply engage with God’s Word and apply it to our everyday lives. This transformative process allows us to grow closer to God, revealing the areas of our lives that require confession, repentance, and change. Let His Word change your life, guiding you toward a path that brings you into closer communion with Him and keeps your steps aligned with His will.

So, take the time today to meditate on God’s Word. Let it enlighten, challenge, and change you. Remember, the whole point of reading scripture is to put it into practice, allowing it to guide and direct your life.

Start practicing God’s Word today and witness the transformation it brings.
