In Psalms 57:5, we see a powerful declaration of God’s greatness: “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.” As Christians, we are made in God’s image, yet so often, we attempt to conform Him to ours. This must change. Our understanding of who we are must be reshaped to reflect who He is. We are not supposed to create a version of God that fits into our limited understanding; instead, we must recognize that we are a reflection of Him.
One of the most significant challenges in the Christian walk is the tendency to attempt to put the Almighty into a box that we can comprehend. Instead of taking Him as He is and adjusting our lives accordingly, we try to mold God into our image. But when we pursue God, we must understand that it’s not about conforming Him to us; it’s about aligning ourselves to who He truly is.
We are justified by faith alone, but we’re also called to work out our salvation, becoming more like our Creator and Savior daily. This requires us to actively choose to exalt God and surrender our entire being in worship. Romans 12:1 reminds us that offering our bodies as living sacrifices is our truest form of worship. Are we making this offering to God?
When we choose to exalt God above all else, we step away from the world’s parade and begin to look less like the world and more like our Father. We become a peculiar people with a unique identity. Our perspectives shift, allowing us to evaluate our feelings and the events around us through a renewed lens. With this transformation comes a newfound power and conviction that ignites within us as we turn away from worldly pursuits in favor of a passionate pursuit of God.
Many may call upon the name of Jesus and profess to follow Him, but when faced with choices that reflect whose lives they truly live for, the truth is revealed. The average church-going Christian often appears superficially different from the world. Yet, when it comes to situations involving God and money, God and the approval of man, God and position, God and personal goals, or God and human love, sadly, God often takes a backseat.
The evidence lies in the choices made daily. So, what does your life convey about whom you are pursuing? If we analyze our lifestyles, would the world recognize us as passionately chasing after God, or would they see us compromising, revealing no real difference between us and them?
Let’s commit ourselves to a deeper pursuit of God. If we want to reflect His image truly, we must allow our lives to align with His truth, love, and purpose. Together, let’s strive to be the peculiar people God has called us to be, radiating His glory in every aspect of our lives.
