When you fly in an airplane, you undoubtedly desire a smooth departure, free from the turbulence of storms. These storms can create an unsettling turbulence that shakes the airplane. As you enter the storm, visibility diminishes; the rain pelts against the windows and the winds rattle the aircraft. However, as the airplane climbs above the storm, the turbulence dissipates, the clouds part, and suddenly you are greeted with nothing but clear blue sky. The storm may still rage below, but now, it is beneath you. You have a different perspective on what is happening—a perspective that brings peace.
In life, we often choose to remain amidst our personal storms—the dark, gray, and rainy world of challenges and struggles. Yet, we do not have to dwell there. There is a profound truth that transcends all our earthly turbulence: God and His Word. This truth reveals who He is and who we are in Him through Christ Jesus.
The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, prayed specifically for the church in Ephesus to have their eyes opened—to see their new identity and their newfound reality in Christ. In Ephesians 1:17, Paul asked God to grant them the spirit of wisdom and revelation, enabling them to know Him better. Our new reality revolves around relationship; it is about knowing and communing with our Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
Paul further emphasizes the importance of understanding our identity in Ephesians 1:20–21, where he speaks of the incredible power at work within us— the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him far above all rule and authority. This is not just a historical event; that same power operates in us today because Christ is in us.
Are you ready for more? Ephesians 2:6 tells us that God raised us up with Christ and seated us in heavenly realms with Him. Just as Jesus is exalted above all powers, so too are we! If you ever find yourself questioning your worth, remember the Holy Spirit’s truth: you belong to Him, and you are treasured. Your life is hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3), and you have a seat above the storms, above the clouds.
No matter what is happening in the world around you, there is a clearing above the storm. Shift your heart’s focus to that clearing in Christ. He sits at the right hand of the Father, above the tumult of life, and you are seated in heavenly places with Him.
As you embrace this truth, it’s time to sit back, buckle up, and lean into Christ, enjoying your first-class seat above all storms. So today, let us pray for the eyes of our hearts to be opened, allowing us to fully comprehend the magnificent power and love of God at work in our lives.
