Welcome to Day Four of our journey in discovering our true identities in Christ. Today, we delve into the beautiful truth of deliverance as expressed in various Scripture passages, including Psalms 107:1-3, Isaiah 43:1-3, and Romans 8:1-4.
Isaiah 43:1 beautifully reassures us with the words: “Now this is what the Lord says: the one who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: don’t be afraid, for I will protect you. I will call you by name; you are mine.”
Names carry profound significance. When someone takes the time to remember your name, it shows that they care and value your individuality. Personally, I struggle with remembering names, especially given how many people I encounter in my daily life. But when I remember someone’s name, it signifies that they’ve made an impact on me, prompting a desire for deeper connection. Using someone’s name reflects honor and respect, creating an intimate bond that goes beyond formalities. My older daughter has the nickname “Boo-boo,” a term filled with memories and love. No matter how she grows or what roles she assumes in life, she will always be “Boo-boo” to me.
Similarly, God knows each of us by name. From the very beginning, we were part of His perfect plan. He intricately designed us, crafted us with purpose, and called us His own. His profound love and care lead to the story of redemption—not only for humanity but specifically for you and me.
Our identity as Christians is not rooted in our accomplishments. Rather, it is founded upon what Jesus has freely done for us. He sacrificed His life as payment for our sins, delivering us from bondage, and gifting us with redemption. This deliverance comes not from a distant deity who remains indifferent, but rather from our Creator, who intimately knows us and calls us by name.
God has a good plan for each one of us. He has gifted us with unique talents, skills, and abilities, perfectly tailored for such a time as this—to contribute to His kingdom and glorify His name.
As we reflect on today’s truth, remember that you are deeply loved and intricately known. You are called by name. How will you respond to this divine calling?
Today’s SOAP verse is Isaiah 43:1. I invite you to meditate on it and share with me what you learn about your identity based on this powerful verse. How does knowing that God calls you by name impact your daily life? Let’s continue to journey together in faith and discovery!
