In Christ: Day 6 – I Am Saved

Focus Verse: Ephesians 2:4–5: “But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in offenses, made us alive together with Christ. By grace, I am saved.”

When we reflect upon our journey of faith, it’s hard not to see a stark ‘before and after’ transformation that mirrors the appeal of fitness milestones or stunning makeovers. Just like those captivating pictures that showcase the fruits of hard work, our spiritual transformation is a testament to the grace and mercy of God.

Ephesians 5:8–10 guides us through this transformation: “For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.” This chapter encapsulates the essence of our change – it’s not just about living better; it’s about being made new.

Before Christ, we were in a state of spiritual death. Much like dire before-and-after photos, our existence was devoid of true purpose, character, and fulfillment. As Ephesians 2:1–5 illustrates, we were spiritually lifeless, lost in our offenses. Yet, through God’s tremendous love, we are given not just a second chance but a complete makeover of our souls. We transition from being spiritually dead to vibrantly alive — and it’s all by grace.

In our journey, the resurrection of our souls represents our newfound identity in Christ. God did not intend for us to wear our former selves like a label; rather, He purposefully engineered a plan for our redemption through the cross of Christ. The choice He offers us allows for a new identity steeped in grace, compassion, and purpose.

As we grasp the enormity of who we were before coming to Jesus, our hearts are drawn to appreciate the beauty of our transformation. The love, grace, and mercy bestowed upon us at Calvary paints a rich picture of God’s redemptive work in our lives.

Embracing our current identity in Christ means recognizing that we are not merely saved from the consequences of our sins; we are saved from the very essence of who we were before. We are transformed into beings of abundant life — lives that resonate with meaning, purpose, and joy.

With each day, let us declare the truth of our transformation: I am not dead. I am alive. I am saved. And in this newness of life, we find our true selves, walking faithfully in the light of Christ, reflecting His glory to the world around us.
