When we hear the phrase “creating an atmosphere,” what thoughts come to mind? For some, it may conjure images of a cozy room filled with soft instrumental music, complemented by a comfy leather couch and a steaming cup of coffee. Others might envision a candlelit dinner with flowers arranged on the table, while classical music plays gently in the background, inviting warmth and intimacy. While we often take note of the physical atmosphere around us, how frequently do we contemplate the supernatural atmosphere that envelops us every day? The truth is, these two realms—the natural and the supernatural—are interconnected in ways we must understand more deeply.
The Atmosphere of Our Homes
In my own home, I strive to cultivate an atmosphere of calm and peace. It serves as my sanctuary from the often-chaotic world outside. You might find it dimly lit, creating a serene environment where I can relax and unwind. Edison bulbs illuminate the rooms with a soft glow, while scented candles create a cozy ambiance. I prefer to play soft worship music in the background as it adds to the tranquility, allowing my spirit to breathe in the presence of God.
The atmosphere we inhabit has significant influence not only on our mental state but also on our ability to connect with God. The natural environment we create impacts our lives, often providing the support we need to thrive amidst external distractions. As we reflect on the physical atmosphere around us, we must also consider the supernatural atmosphere—how it affects us and how we can intentionally create an environment that welcomes divine intervention and connection.
Understanding John 14:12–14
In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes a specific and profound commitment in chapter 14, verses 12-14: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will do the works that I do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to my Father. And whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:12–14, MEV)
This passage carries significant implications for how we approach both our communication with God and the atmosphere we create around us. Here, Jesus offers a stunning promise: those who believe will not only do the works He performed during His earthly ministry but will do greater works. It’s a remarkable invitation to engage in the supernatural.
The Supernatural vs. the Natural Atmosphere
When we analyze Jesus’ life on earth, we see that it wasn’t the environment that dictated His actions; instead, He cultivated a supernatural atmosphere wherever He went. The life of Jesus was an embodiment of heaven on earth. As He ministered, He created an environment where peace, healing, deliverance, and transformation were the norm. Jesus’ ministry was about ushering in the supernatural presence of God into everyday circumstances.
The Scriptures remind us that “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1). Therefore, just as the atmosphere on earth supports a myriad of living things, it’s vital to recognize the potential for a heaven-like atmosphere to exist here and now. Jesus exemplified that supernatural power can invade our daily lives, transforming them from the mundane into extraordinary experiences.
Transcending the Natural: How the Apostles Lived
The Apostles had the unique privilege of witnessing a life fully devoted to the Father, marked by prayer and reliance on the Holy Spirit. They observed firsthand how Jesus performed miracles, healed the sick, and set captives free. This lifestyle inspired them to embrace the same path, resulting in their lives being radically transformed.
Acts 2:41-47 depicts the early church living in the supernatural atmosphere through their devotion to the teachings of Christ and each other. They met daily, broke bread together, prayed, and shared all they had. Their unity and commitment to a life driven by prayer created an environment rife with miraculous signs and wonders.
An Invitation to a Higher Calling
Life in the supernatural doesn’t have to feel distant or unattainable; it starts with our commitment to cultivating an atmosphere conducive to hearing God’s voice and experiencing His power. The key to unlocking this supernatural reality lies in aligning our hearts and minds to the Kingdom of God.
“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10) encapsulates the essence of what it means to create a supernatural atmosphere. Just as the environment of heaven reflects divine love, peace, and righteousness, we are called to reflect these attributes in our lives and communities.
How to Create a Supernatural Atmosphere
- Engage in Prayer: Learning to converse with God in prayer changes the atmosphere. Ephesians 6:18 invites us to “pray in the Spirit at all times,” positioning ourselves to be continually aware of God’s presence. Prayer is the means through which we invite God into our situations, circumstances, and lives, transformationally altering our atmosphere.
- Worship as a Lifestyle: Romans 12:1 urges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our reasonable service. Worshiping God shifts our focus from ourselves to Him, opening our hearts to encounter the supernatural. Creating dedicated time for worship will help establish an atmosphere where God can move freely.
- Meditate on the Word: The Word of God activates our faith. When we meditate on scriptures, such as John 14:12–14, we reinforce our belief in the promises of God and our ability to participate in the greater works ordained for us. Psalm 119:105 affirms, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path,” guiding us through darkness into the light of His truth.
- Fellowship with Believers: Surrounding ourselves with like-minded believers creates a community that fosters faith and encourages supernatural encounters. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages this fellowship by exhorting us to spur one another on in love and good deeds. Together, we can amplify the collective atmosphere of faith within our lives.
- Practice Expectancy: Being expectant is key to embracing the supernatural. John 14:14 states that God will do anything we ask in His name for His glory. Cultivating an atmosphere of expectancy opens our hearts to the possibilities of miracles and interventions in our lives.
- Remain Sensitive to the Holy Spirit: Acts 1:8 notes that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon us, enabling us to be witnesses. Being sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading equips us to recognize opportunities for bringing supernatural atmospheres into our daily interactions.
Living Life in the Supernatural
Imagine living in a state where you experience peace amid chaos, healing amid sickness, and freedom amid bondage. Living life in the supernatural means that, just like Jesus and the early apostles, we too can embody an atmosphere where the miraculous becomes part of our daily reality.
As we embrace the call to be all in—fully committed to Christ and to creating an atmosphere that welcomes the supernatural—we allow Him to work in us and through us in unimaginable ways. The supernatural does not merely reside in the pages of scripture; it beckons us into deeper communion and cooperation with God.
The Power of Asking in His Name
Jesus’ promise of answering prayers in His name signifies both power and responsibility. It’s an opportunity aligned with God’s glory, inviting us to be vessels through which His works are manifested on earth. When we take those steps to align our will with His, we unlock the potential to change our environments.
Revelation 12:11 states, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Our testimonies reflect the reality of God influencing our lives and circumstances. When we share what God does within us, we create an atmosphere of faith for others, paving the way for their encounters with the supernatural.
Conclusion: The Atmosphere of Heaven on Earth
We must become more intentional in creating and recognizing the supernatural atmosphere around us. It requires an awakening to the reality that wherever we go, we can carry the presence of God, reflecting His glory and grace.
With every act of prayer, every song of praise, and every declaration of His promises, we are sowing seeds into the atmosphere around us. As we live life in alignment with the principles laid out in John 14:12–14, we can impact not only our lives but also those around us, ushering in the atmosphere of heaven—right here on earth.
So take a moment to reflect. What atmosphere are you cultivating in your life? Are you ready to invite the supernatural into your day-to-day experiences? It’s time to embrace the commitment of living a life that creates an environment where God can move powerfully and supernaturally. Engage with the invitation given to you by Jesus, and watch how your world transforms into one that reflects His glory.
