Living Like He’s Coming Soon

1 Thessalonians speaks a lot about the rapture—that time when believers will be caught up to meet Christ in the air and leave this earth behind. Of all Paul’s writings on prophecy and the end times, 1 Thessalonians might be the most practical.

Many teachers talk about prophecy like it’s a mystery to decode or a timeline to debate. But Paul? He uses it to teach us how to live.

Prophecy isn’t meant to entertain our curiosity; it’s meant to shape our character.

The Hope of His Return

Setting your expectations on Christ’s soon return gives you hope.

Think about it—if you knew Jesus was coming back in three months, what would change?

Would your priorities look different?

Would your words change?

Who would you tell about Christ?

What would you want to make right before He comes?

If the reality of Jesus’ return doesn’t change anything in your life… then let’s be honest—you don’t really believe He’s coming soon.

Because if we truly believe we’re going to stand before God one day, we’re going to start living like it matters.

That’s the heart of 1 Thessalonians: hope that transforms how we live right now.

Encouragement in the Middle of Trouble

The Thessalonian believers were facing intense persecution.

They were mocked, rejected, and pressured because of their faith.

Paul loved this church deeply. He longed to be with them, to encourage them, to strengthen their faith. He wanted to establish them in truth so they would stand firm when life got hard.

Let’s pause on that word—establish.

Go back to Exodus. Remember when Moses stood on the hill while Israel fought their enemies? When his arms were raised, Israel prevailed. But when his arms grew tired and fell, the battle shifted against them.

So Aaron and Hur came beside him and held up his arms. Together, they established his hands. And in doing so, they established Israel’s victory.

That’s what we’re called to do for one another today—to hold each other up. To steady one another’s faith when life gets heavy. To say, You’re not fighting this battle alone.

Faith That Endures

Paul comforted the Thessalonians because he knew what they were going through. He had faced the same kind of spiritual attacks. He told them these afflictions were testing their faith—not to destroy it, but to prove it genuine.

That’s the difference between a Christ follower and a churchgoer.

A Christ follower endures through the storm because they know God has already won the victory.

A churchgoer falters because they built their faith on comfort instead of Christ.

Paul saw their endurance as evidence that their faith was real, rooted, and alive.

A firm foundation means you can have peace even in the middle of pain. You can have joy even when the battle rages.

Peter echoed this in 1 Peter 4:12–13 — don’t be surprised by fiery trials, but rejoice, because through them, you share in the sufferings of Christ.

You Can’t Lose—Because Christ Already Won

Let that sink in.

You. Can’t. Lose.

Because Christ. Already. Won.

The battle might seem overwhelming, but the victory is already settled.

God will work it out. You just have to trust Him.

This is the kind of faith Paul was talking about—the kind that lives like Jesus could return today.

Living Ready

So ask yourself again:

If you believed Jesus was coming today or tomorrow, what would change?

Who would you share the Gospel with?

What distractions would you lay down?

What sin would you finally walk away from?

What relationships would you restore?

When you live with eternity in mind, everything changes.

Paul told the Thessalonians to keep loving each other—and to let that love overflow into their communities. Love like Jesus is coming today.

Because that kind of love purifies us. It establishes holiness within us. It changes our character, our attitude, and our witness.

When we love like Jesus, we start to look like Him.

So keep growing.

Keep encouraging one another.

Keep holding up each other’s arms.

Keep your eyes on eternity.

Because the King is coming.
