See Revival Day Eight: Lock Step

Have you ever watched synchronized swimmers or a group of cheerleaders perform? Their movements are executed in perfect harmony, showcasing not only their skills but also their instinctive connection to one another. While we may not always notice it, there’s a leader guiding the group. Similarly, as followers of Christ, we have a Leader—Jesus—and we are called to be in lock step with Him.

Locking step with Jesus requires intentionality and consistent effort on our part. It’s not a one-time event but rather a daily practice of aligning our lives with His will. So, how do we achieve this synchronization with God?

First, we must begin to see God more clearly. In Psalm 119, David meditates on the wonders of God’s Word. He emphasizes the incredible power of Scripture to bring order to our lives and to make them pleasing to God. In this passage, David uses seven different verbs to express his deep commitment to God’s commands: seek, hide, recount, rejoice, meditate, consider, and delight.

Take a moment to reflect—how many of these verbs actively describe your relationship with God? Are you following Him as a chore or as a delight? Do you seek His truth and hide it in your heart? Do you take the time to recount His blessings from the past and rejoice in what He is doing for you today?

The truth is that we begin to stray from God when we stop actively seeking Him. It’s not enough to merely avoid sin; we must pursue the will of God and apply His Word to every aspect of our lives. When we genuinely seek Him, we find that we are less likely to wander away.

Next, we must learn to submit to God. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us not to lean on our own understanding, but rather to trust in Yahweh and acknowledge Him in all our ways. We all have our plans and preferences; yet, our understanding is limited. God knows what is truly best for us. Do we understand this reality? Surrendering our will and submitting to the authority of the Lord is essential for a life that pleases Him and makes an impact for His Kingdom.

Additionally, staying in step with God involves walking by the Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we live in and by the Holy Spirit. We are God’s people because the Holy Spirit resides within us. Therefore, it’s crucial that we follow the Spirit’s leading. As Galatians 5:25 states, “If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”
It takes time and effort to master our movements in sync with the Holy Spirit. Thankfully, we have the ultimate choreographer guiding us—the One who hovered above the waters at creation (Genesis 1:2) choreographing our lives.

When we actively seek God, submit to His will, and walk in the Spirit, we will find ourselves walking in lock step and unity with Him. And when we align ourselves with God, we step into the blessings He has prepared for us.

So, are you ready to lock your step with God today?
